If you catch me in a high class restaurant or a court hearing, nine times out of ten I'll tell you I DON'T get a kick out of seeing a load of kids getting smushed by a flying Astra. But when an ad comes along so mind-bogglingly stupid that it actually shows just that, I have to alter my principles.
This DOE Road Safety ad has been making the rounds on social media the past few days. Probably because it's not suitable for telly, but also because it's completely absurd, totally insane and - if a poorly rendered pile of squished CGI sprogs makes you chuckle - pretty hilarious. Have a look (tear-jerking Guns N' Roses cover is my new jam btw):
The ad was inspired by the death of 28 children on Irish roads over the last 14 years. Now I'm no statistician, but I don't think those numbers really match up to the brutal massacre depicted in the clip. Call me cruel.
Whatever you think of it, you have to raise a glass to the creatives who thought up this bit of tragedy porn. It proves that despite a devastating addiction to LiveLeak and cocaine, you can still fashion a successful career in advertising.
