A crowdfunded gadget has just reached its investment target, proving what a shitty society we still live. The Safelet is an emergency device that resembles a broad silver bracelet, with two buttons on either side.
If the wearer feels threatened they can push the buttons simultaneously, which will power-up a recording device, alert a group of pre-selected 'guardians,' call the police and tell both as to your whereabouts.
The gadget is obviously designed to do what a phone can't, or more accurately, what a person can't do if they're unable to access their phone quickly. The Dutch company that desgined it did so because of a study which found that 35% of women, no matter their location, have experienced sexual assault. Which is depressing.
