SAY BOLLOCKS TO POVERTY

Pretty much every day I see hundreds (or at least ten) adverts for organisations telling me that I can help people living in poverty by sending texts or donate money each and every month.

Some of you might get a bit tired of the idea of giving away money without really knowing where the money is going or if your donations are really helping out people in the way that those adverts said they would.

Then some good news arrived in my inbox the other day about some parties and events that anyone can organise with their friends to either raise awareness or money or both to those one billion people living in poverty at the moment.

The (pretty clever name) Bollocks to Poverty events are fun gig and club nights where non-profit organisation ActionAid supports you and helps you out organising and promoting whichever event you would like to host in a fun way to say “bollocks” to poverty.

For example, if you would like to organise an art exhibition to put your talented friends in the limelight as well as raise awareness about poverty, violence against women and abuse or even raise money to a good cause, ActionAid can help you make it happen.

It sounds a bit too good to be true. Like, who hasn’t thought about organising a party or gig but never really had the tools to do it?

You organise an event wherever you are in the UK and ActionAid helps you out with stickers, flyers, posters and promotion. The catch? Well, there isn’t really a catch. For ActionAid to help you out with a fun day or night out or in with your friends, all you have to do is to help out raise money or awareness about the awful state a lot of people in the world are living in.

Furthermore, if you’re not the kind of guy who likes to organise stuff, you can buy music, design a banner or volunteer at festivals instead – all for a good cause.

So, to sum up: The Bollocks to Poverty Tour makes sure that helping out can be fun. It also serves to give you peace of mind rather than a monthly transaction to a charity organisation.

Check out actionaid.org.uk/bollocks for more information on how you can “make the world a better place” as Michael Jackson once said.
