At 11.15 this morning, prime minister Theresa May took the unusual step of hosting a surprise press conference outside Downing Street. May announced that she is calling an early general election to take place on 8th June; under the Fixed Terms Parliament Act the next election is due to take place on 2020, but Labour will back May's call, ensuring the vote will go ahead in just under two months. May has called the election as she seeks a strong mandate for the forthcoming Brexit negotiations and the Tories are far ahead of the opposition in the polls.
In what's already a chaotic time in politics, a host of uncertainties emerge; will the Lib Dems launch a storming comeback- or end up propping up the Tories again? Will Corbyn snatch a surprise victory from an unelected prime minister? Will we ever get to the bottom of Tory cheating in 2015's election or see more of it? Will the SNP retain its popularity? Will Tim Farron ever fuck off?
Only one thing is certain, regardless of the outcome: we are fucked.
