Michael T. Slager, the officer involved in the above video, has been charged with murder for the above shooting in Charleston, South Carolina. The video shows that the suspect is clearly fleeing and is unarmed, so Slager's decision to shoot him is not only unnecessary but also unconstitutional (that's right, I remember this Supreme Court case from my education).
A lot of people are wondering if Slager would be facing similar charges if it hadn't been captured on video - if we couldn't see Walter L Scott running in fear, if there were no slow-mo frames of the officer appearing to plant evidence - and the general consensus is no, he wouldn't.
The past two years have seen police defend their actions due to the pressures of situations that can change in an instant. This isn't one of those situations. Bad luck Slager, enjoy your time inside.
