Even though it seems to arrive sooner and sooner every year, tis the festive season! With that comes a range of big brand adverts that try too hard to be funny/deep/viral-worthy but nonetheless warm your grandma's heart.
Previously we've been offered a bloke stranded on the moon while this year we get a sickly earnest John Lewis ad -#BusterTheBoxer - which have little effect on cynical consumers such as myself, apart from turning us into even bigger Scrooges/Grinches.
Out of nowhere H&M has released their seasonal advert directed by twee cine-god Wes Anderson. With Adrien Brody as a morose train conductor, it’s hard for cinephiles and the average joe not to be sucked into Anderson’s whimsical world. I’m all for big companies to throw money at Anderson’s feet for a cute short film to slap their brand across (don’t forget Anderson’s fantastic Prada ad staring Jason Schwartzman). Although we have to wait for Anderson’s next untitled stop motion feature (which is slated for 2018), at least we have something to warm our collective cold hearts.
