#IAMSPARTACUS BLOWS UP TWITTER

We all write stupid and ridiculous things on our Twitter and Facebook statuses, but what would happen if someone actually took one of those posts seriously?  Paul Chambers harmlessly tweeted, “Crap! Robin Hood airport is closed.  You’ve got a week and a bit to get your shit together otherwise I’m blowing the airport sky high!!” Purely out of fear that he might miss his flight to Belfast, not with the actual intention of pulling a terrorist move.

Surprisingly to Chambers, he is now facing fines after he lost his appeal last week against his conviction, which his lawyers called a “foolish prank”.  He has been charged by the judge for his tweet being “menacing in its content.”

#IAmSpartacus ran as the number one worldwide trending topic amongst many of Chambers’ supporters on Friday, alongside the retweet of his original “threatening” post.  Following their fellow tweeter, as gladiators supported Sparatacus, Chambers’ fans are giving the law a taunting yet humorous slap in the face.

Since the January incident, Chambers has lost his job as a financial manager, in addition to having to pay a £2,000 legal bill.  I guess we had all better start watching what we say on our frequented social networks. Or, maybe not. #IAmSpartacus.
