Move over Mohammed Abad, there's a new partly-robo man in town (Bali).
Six months ago, 31-year old Wayan Sumardana (also known as Tawan) suffered a stroke which paralyzed his left arm. Keen to keep his welding job, Sumardana utilised prior education and internet research to achieve something incredible: he created his own bionic arm. Assembled in his Indonesian workshop from old metal parts, electrodes connected to the man's scalp send signals to the arm which makes it function. Grittily futuristic as fuck, like Blade Runner.
The only downside is that Sumardana will almost definitely be a fetish for steampunks, unless he's into that, then fair play. Here he is at work:
