JOURNEY TO ZERO

12 Monday 12th April 2010

This campaign would seem more poignant if all major car manufacturers adopted a similar attitude and enthusiasm to the concept. It is interesting to see a car manufacturer highlighting the uses of owning and riding a bicycle, almost pushing users away from their product. Although the effort is in aid of actually manufacturing this zero emissions car than having people buy it i presume.

Journey to Zero have pin pointed social networking to try to gain more support for the campaign with the two largest denominators: Facebook and Twitter.

The program is prevalent in America, Japan and some European countries at the moment with events being hosted across the country, and various schemes and methods on how to cut down emissions are on offer. The sceptic in me believes that this may be yet another marketing ploy to join the ranks of becoming socially-conscious over night.

That being said it is good to adopt a bike friendly city. I would say London is bike friendly but I'm not so sure after witnessing a bike courier get hit by a motorist. The cyclist was a bit shaken but the female driver only managed to shout insults from the comfort of her car, whilst the passenger fixed the wing mirror and drove off. I'm pretty sure that could be classified as a hit and run. I probably should have stuck around as I was a prime witness and also riding my bike.
